John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds’ IMAGINARY FRIEND film IF will have a new early release date

John Krasinski he made a new movie with Ryan Reynolds titled Self, and it’s a fantasy comedy that revolves around imaginary friends. The film was originally supposed to hit theaters on May 24, 2024, and now it’s coming out a week earlier on May 17, which is awesome! Since most movies get postponed, it’s nice to see a movie’s release get pushed back.

Speaking previously about the film, Krasinski said he wanted to make a film that kids could enjoy in the same way he enjoyed watching ET and The Goonies when he was little. He also assembled an exceptional cast for the film, including Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, AwkwafinaAND Vince Vaughn. Other previously announced actors include Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Cailey Fleming, Louis Gossett Jr, Fiona Shaw, Alan S. Kim, AND Bobby Moynihan.

The film has a very Amblin-esque feel and is a mix of CGI animation and live-action. The story follows a young girl (Fleming) who is able to see and interact with all the old imaginary friends of those around her. Imaginary friends conceived, created and then discarded.

One of the imaginary friends is IF, and IF is a furry purple creature voiced by Carrell. There are several other Imaginary Friends characters and they are voiced by the other announced cast members.

Reynolds described the film as “a live-action Pixar film” and Krasinski, who wrote and directed it, said: “I want this movie to believe in something bigger… and have you experience something bigger, this it’s possible”.
