Even Josh Peck couldn’t see himself as a leading man Dusk.
The Drake and Josh The star opened up about his audition for the teen vampire romance in a recent episode Big guys Podcast. He claimed that he actually came “close” to playing Edward Cullen on the show before – spoiler alert – the role went to Robert Pattinson.
“I remember it was like 2006? 7?” Peck told his co-host Ben Soffer and their guest Taylor Lautner. “They say, ‘Audition for this movie, Dusk. It’s based on a book and it’s going to be great.’ So I send in my tape… [for] Edward.”
A month later the phone rang. “I’m with my manager. He says, “It’s up to you and three guys. “You’re close,” Peck recalls. “I’m like, ‘Really? I haven’t even had a gut punch! I’m like, ‘That’s not possible .’ He should be so shirtless. It won’t happen.'”
It did not happen.
Pattinson played the lead vampire in all five successful films. And when Peck finally saw Pattinson in the role, he was even more surprised that he was even considered.
“I ask myself: ‘What world were they in? ‘Okay, this is what we’re thinking: Chris Hemsworth or Stanley Tucci?'” he said. “What the hell?” Impossible!”
