VICE explores the genius of director Ridley Scott in a short film starring Sigourney Weaver, Orlando Bloom and more

VICE released a short documentary film titled From Alien to Blade Runner: the genius of Ridley Scott. The video explores the legendary director and the work he did. The video includes interviews with Sigourney Weaver, Orlando BloomAND Geena Davistogether with the screenwriter Simone Kinbergwhich reflects on the director, “who took us from the ancient past to dystopian futures.”

They discuss different aspects of the director and what he has done in the industry and one of the things they highlight is how Scott has empowered female roles in films:

“He’s very drawn to female characters who are captains of their own ship. “Alien sets in motion the idea that you can have badass women at the center of big Hollywood spectacle films. Alien and Blade Runner, those two are… two of the greatest science fiction films of all time. … making so that Louise kills the attacker not in self-defense but because of his sexist provocation… The Scott’s Road film becomes a vehicle of social criticism, it is almost like a film about the feminist movement”.

It touches on a lot of different aspects of Scott, so if you’re a fan of the director… it’s a must watch!
