During the development of the third film in the Spider-Man series, one of the first concepts that Marvel Studios and the creative team wanted to explore was the introduction of Kraven the Hunter. There was talk of this before the film’s release, but that ultimately didn’t happen.
Director Jon Watts he previously said, “Oh, I’d like Kraven. Is it just the trick of how to play Kraven in a movie?” He also admitted that he didn’t know which villain he would use next, saying: “I don’t know who’s going to be next. I always like to think about it in terms of what’s going to be the hardest thing for Peter So this will be the next trick.
But he really wanted to play with Kraven, and in that way Spider-Man: Far From Home Ultimately, it was a perfect situation to bring Kraven the Hunter into the story. Since Spider-Man was a wanted man, Kraven going to New York to hunt Spider-Man made sense.
Tom Holland he previously said Watts “pitched [him] this Kraven movie,” and he said, “For a long time, there was going to be a Kraven movie that was going to be the third movie because things weren’t working and a whole bunch of different things. Jon pitched me this Kraven movie, which was actually really great. I don’t want to talk about it in case that movie ends up happening in the future, but it was fun.”
So why didn’t Kraven the Hunter appear in the film? According to the writers Chris McKenna AND Erik SommersAfter pitching Kraven as the third film’s villain, studio executives told them that the character “wouldn’t be available until Sony put him in a solo film.”
This information was revealed in the new book, MCU: The Kingdom of Marvel Studioswritten by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales and Gavin Edwards.
Kraven the Hunter will now have his own solo movie as the lead Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and it looks like it’s going to be a wild and crazy movie. Maybe that movie will set up a comparison to Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man movie in development. All I know is that I would love to see Spider-Man and Kraven face off on the big screen.
Kraven the Hunter will be released on August 30, 2024.
