NEON has released a trailer for a new psychological thriller titled Eileen, which is a film described as a “wild Hitchcockian noir”. Movie stars Anne Hathaway AND Thomasin McKenzie (Last night in Soho) and is an adaptation of the acclaimed novel of the same name by Ottessa Moshfegh.
The film is set during a harsh Massachusetts winter in 1964, and the story follows a young secretary named Eileen, who “becomes enchanted by the charming new counselor at the prison where she works. Their budding friendship takes a twisted turn when Rebecca reveals a dark secret, setting Eileen down a sinister path.
I had the opportunity to watch this film at Sundance earlier this year and it was a super intense and amazing film. The performances are fantastic and the way the story unfolds is unexpected, and definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. Besides that, the performances are fantastic! The trailer doesn’t give away major story points, which is nice.
The book’s author said in a statement: “Seeing my book come to life on screen has always been a career goal of mine. The Sundance premiere was a beautiful taste of what’s to come.”
The film will be released theatrically in New York and Los Angeles on December 1, followed by a wide theatrical release nationwide on December 8, 2023. The film was directed by William Oldroyd (Lady Macbeth), from a screenplay written by Moshfegh e Luca Goebel.
