RL Stine offers updates on Netflix’s FEAR STREET horror film franchise

Goose bumps author R. L. Stine offered an update on Netflix’s popular horror film franchise Street of fear, saying they’ll “probably” make more Fear Street movies. When she reflects on his career and to what extent Goose bumps came during an interview with Rolling Stone, he also talked about Fear Street, saying:

“I’ve done everything you can think of and it’s all so far beyond what I ever dreamed of. When we started I said, “Let’s do two or three.” [Goosebumps books].’ I never imagined it would last this long. It’s all a big surprise to me. I’m excited to have a new TV show on the air [Disney+’s Goosebumps] and we’ll probably do more Fear Street movies as well, and you know, that’s a thrill for me.

The last time we heard about the series, it was said that “Netflix is very busy developing more Fear Street!” RL Stine previously spoke about the Fear Street films saying:

“I… hear rumors of more Fear Street movies for Netflix, because the first ones did so well last summer. Those movies shocked me, because they were all R-rated, and I’ve never done anything R-rated! All those teenagers were getting cut. I thought, ‘Suddenly, I have a slasher movie!’”

The films’ director, Leigh Janiak, hopes these first films are the start of a Marvel-style horror cinematic universe. She said:

“One of the coolest things about ‘Fear Street’ is the fact that the universe is big and allows for a lot of space. One of the things I talked about before I was hired was that we have the potential to create a horror Marvel [Cinematic Universe], where you can have slasher killers from many different eras. There’s the canon of our core mythology that’s built around the fact that the devil lives in Shadyside, so there’s room for everything else too.

“I think my hope is that people like it enough that we can start building [more], we can think about what another trilogy would be, what standalones would be, what TV would be. I don’t even think about it exactly like on TV or in movies anymore. That’s the thing about Netflix and what ‘Fear Street’ is, which is kind of a hybrid novelty. I’m excited about the possibility of what else could happen.”

The three films were based on Stine’s novels set in the town of Shadyside. The original series lasted 51 novels. The three films were released over the course of three weeks and tell a killer story about the sinister history of the town of Shadyside. In 1994, a group of teenagers discover that the terrifying events that have plagued their town for generations may all be connected. It’s a horror story with a murder mystery, and the group of teenagers the story centers around could be the next target.

Street of Fear: 1994 – In 1994, in the aftermath of a brutal tragedy in Shadyside, Ohio, a group of teenagers discover that a series of terrifying events that have plagued their town for many years may not be random, and that they could be the next victims.

Street of fear: 1978 – In 1978, Camp Nightwing is divided by the campers and counselors from the prosperous town of Sunnyvale and the campers and maintenance staff from the downtrodden town of Shadyside, but when the horrors of their towns’ shared history come to life, they must unite to solve a terrifying mystery before it’s too late.

Street of Fear: 1666 – In 1666, a colonial town is gripped by a hysterical witch hunt that will have deadly consequences for centuries to come, and it’s up to the teenagers of 1994 to try to end their town’s curse before it’s too late.

I enjoyed these films and can’t wait to see what Netflix and the creative team have planned for the next film series!
