Best Buy has confirmed that they will begin to stop selling physical media like DVD, Blu-ray, and Ultra HD 4K in 2024. They will no longer sell them in their stores or online.
It’s just a sign of the times. With the advent of streaming and the ability to purchase digital movies, physical media is dying. Many of us expected this, so it shouldn’t be a surprise. But it’s still sad to see, especially for those of us who have collected physical media over the years.
Variety confirmed the news and noted that the company made the decision to stop selling DVDs as recently as nine months ago. A Best Buy spokesperson said:
“To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is very different today than it was decades ago. Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to offer customers new and innovative technologies to explore, discover and enjoy.”
