During a panel at New York Comic Con over the weekend, director Matthew Vaughn talked a little about two of his big film franchises, Kick ass AND Kingsman.
The director has planned a reboot of Kick ass, and he teased what he thinks about that film. The original Kick-Ass movie was released ten years ago and introduced us to the characters Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl, and Big Daddy. That first movie was really great and at the time was unlike any superhero or comic book movie we had seen before, and it was so much fun!
While Vaughn was talking about it Kick assalso offered an update on Kingman 3saying, “Next year we will reboot Kick ass and we are doing Kingman 3.” He said:
“Kick-Ass kind of changed people’s perception of what a superhero movie was at the time. So we’re doing it again. So it’s not any of the other Kick-Ass characters.”
But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to play with the original characters, because he plans to bring them back at some point. He said:
“We would love to bring them back after the reboot, but this reboot is going in a direction I can’t really talk about. But it’s funny.”
It would be nice and interesting to catch up on the adult versions of Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl. But, before that happens, he has another story he wants to tell in that world. When the director began teasing the reboot a few years ago, he hinted that the film would focus on Patience Lee, the single African-American mother who takes on the role of vigilante in the comics. He also said:
“Oh, you’ve got a big reboot, a big Kick-Ass reboot in two years. Big reboot… It’s so damn crazy I can’t talk about it. But we already have it ready.” All rights will be restored in two years and then we’ll reboot it and people will say, “This is crazy.”
Speaking about the future of Kingsman, Vaughn said:
“We have to move forward with Kingsman 3 because I was joking about Colin [Firth] he will end up being a side portrait while Taron is Arthur. So we’re working on that right now.”
It was previously thought that it would be the next film Kingsman: The Blue Bloods, which tells a story that explores the Kingsman group’s connection to Adolf Hitler. This was actually teased in the post-credits scene of The King’s Man.
