Rob Liefeld’s Most Famous Original Captain America Artwork “Heroes Reborn” Is Going Up for Auction

You all know it Rob LiefeldCaptain America “Heroes Reborn” from 1996, art. The ultra-stylized art is well known as it has become a popular meme. I can’t help but love the charm of this image with the gigantic proportions of Cap’s chest and the way his entire gigantic arm disappears behind the shield to waste him. This always makes me smile. It’s just the ’90s comic book art that many of us grew up loving, but it didn’t make sense.

This famous cover is featured at Heritage as part of an auction of original comic book art. No starting bid or expected value has been placed at this time, but bidding will only open in about a week.

Liefeld said he sold the artwork in 1999, so this is at least the second time the image has hit the market. Other artists featured in the collection for the event include Jim Lee AND Giovanni Romita Jr.. When talking about creating art, Liefeld said:

“I just wanted to draw a big, bold Captain America. Here’s the deal: They blew it up at the Heroes Reborn conference in New York City at Marvel Comics. Jim Lee and I flew to New York. That was the image and the people he kept saying, “Oh, look at that Captain America.” I didn’t hear anything bad about that image until the 2000s. It was like someone decided, “I’m going to make a meme of this. I’ll do it!”. I don’t mind either. It doesn’t shake me, shake me, or roll me over.”

Here is the description that was shared with the art on the auction site:
