During the writers’ strike, Marvel Studios suspended production on its long-awaited series Daredevil: Born Again. At the time production was suspended, less than half of the 18-episode season had been filmed, and the time allotted to Marvel executives and President Kevin Feige to review the video. According to THR, after seeing what had been shot, they realized that “The show wasn’t working.”
Basically, they looked at what was shot and realized it wasn’t as good as the Reckless show that Netflix produced. The report goes on to reveal that Marvel has fired its writers and directors, specifically the lead writers Chris Ord AND Matt Cormanand all the directors for the rest of the season. They go on to explain that this decision is “part of a significant creative reboot of the series.”
Inside sources say Corman and Ord “created a legal procedural that bore no resemblance to the Netflix version, known for its action and violence. Cox didn’t even show up in costume until the fourth episode. Marvel, after greenlighting the concept, found itself having to rethink the show’s original intention. They will remain executive producers on the two-season series.
Marvel Studios is now on the hunt for new writers and directors to join the project before restarting production, which stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, playing the blind lawyer-turned-superhero.
The studio hopes that the changes they’re making will lead to a project that meets fans’ high expectations. Marvel will keep some already filmed scenes and episodes, but will also include other serialized elements.
The series is also the protagonist Vincenzo D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. Other actors who have been cast in the series include Michele Gandolfini, Margherita LevievaAND Sandrine Holtwho will play Vanessa Fisk, Fisk’s wife. Michele Gaston (Chicago Police, Mayor of Kingstown) is also in the show.
I hope Marvel can pull this off and make a big hit Reckless series because it would be a shame if they Daredevil: Born Again the series doesn’t end up being as good as Netflix’s badass show.
