Director Ridley Scott recently offered an update on his historical epic Napoleon, which is currently being edited. During an interview with Total Film, the director revealed that he has a four-hour and 10-minute cut of the film that he is looking to release on streaming. When asked how the post-production process is going, he said:
“I’m working on it. It was four o’clock [hours] 10 [minutes] this morning, so what’s going to happen is we’re going to do the screening [the theatrical cut] first with Sony, then it runs its course, and then the perfect thing is that [the director’s cut] it’s streaming and we have four hours and 10 minutes.”
Scott is no stranger to director’s cuts of films he’s made, so I guess it makes sense that he has a four-hour cut Napoleon that he would like to release. The director also talked about how he managed to shoot the film in just 62 days, staging six epic battle sequences. He said:
“Every scene is a geometry. Having 11 to 14 cameras, we shot Napoleon in 62 days. Now I’m making Gladiator 2 in 54 days, because I don’t do 50 shots with one camera, in one shot, and then shoot in tour.”
Napoleon is described as “a spectacle-filled action epic detailing the rise and fall of the iconic French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte (Joaquin Phoenix)” The film “captures Bonaparte’s unstoppable journey to power through the prism of his changing and compelling relationship with his one true love, Josephine (Vanessa Kirby), showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed.
The film “captures the famous battles, relentless ambition and astonishing strategic mind of Napoleon as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary”. The film is also the protagonist Tahar Rahim, Ben Miles, Ludivine SagnierAND Rupert Everett.
The film was written by Davide Scarpaand Apple Original Films and Sony Pictures Entertainment will release Napoleon on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
