PET SEMETARY: BLOODLINE is the perfect example of how to ruin a great and interesting story

I was actually pretty excited about the upcoming one Pet seminar prequel film Pet Seminar: Lineage, and was supposed to tell the dark and tragic story of Timmy Baterman. This is a story that hasn’t been properly explored before… and still isn’t. Pet Seminar: Lineage is a film inspired by this backstory in Pet seminar tradition, but they changed the whole story, they changed the tradition, and they did it with a poorly written and directed film. I was so disappointed with how this movie ended and how they handled the story and characters.

Baterman’s story is a secondary story within the main narrative of King’s novel, and was used to emphasize the dangers of the cemetery. During World War II, Timmy was killed in action and his grieving father, Bill Baterman, was unable to cope with the loss, so he buried his son in Micmac Cemetery, which is the ancient cemetery with the power of resurrection. This brought Timmy back to life, but he was never the same. He began to behave strangely and violently, terrorizing the citizens. Stories about his behavior, including whispers about citizens’ secrets and acts of violence, spread throughout the city.

Several men from the town, including Jud Crandall, went to the Baterman house to confront Bill about his undead son. They found Bill in a state of denial, refusing to acknowledge that the thing in his house was no longer his child. Eventually, the Baterman house burned down under mysterious circumstances, with Bill and Timmy inside.

This is truly a fascinating story, which could have made a truly fantastic horror film! But Pet Seminar: Lineage is the perfect example of how to ruin a great and interesting story. The director of the film, Lindsey Beershe talked about how this is such an important missing piece in the mythology and how she was excited to tell it, but then she and the creative team made up a bunch of stuff that isn’t even in line with Pet seminar story told by Stephen King, who even broke some rules, one of which is that the dead must be buried alone. I won’t go into spoilers, but when you watch the movie you will understand.

Then, for some reason, they turned the movie into a zombie movie. The people buried in the ancient cemetery had many more zombie attributes for some reason, and this was never present in the original story. They even came up with a certain way to kill people resurrected from the dead as zombies, and even that was never in the original story. This movie just made up a lot of stupid things that made the movie generic and uninteresting.

In addition to the film’s weak writing, the direction was no better. I don’t know what the director was trying to do, but it was all over the place with all kinds of shots that didn’t make sense and the pacing was wrong. The editing was also jumpy and made the flow of the story confusing. They also had to tone down some of the sound effects in the film, and for some reason, they overdid it. This especially applies to characters resurrected from the dead. So the film was full of technical problems.

This film has seriously been portrayed as a bad student film. It’s like they took a very unique story idea and turned it into something we’ve seen a thousand times before in horror movies. It was so damn generic that I walked away from the sad movie because I know how great a movie it could and should have been! Yes, Pet Semetary: Bloodlines really disappointed me.

While I like the casting in the movie, the movie just wasted all the talent! That cast included Jackson White, Henry Thomas, Isabella Star LaBlancAND David Duchovny. I guess they did the best they could with what they were given to work with.

The film is currently streaming on Paramount+. It’s up to you whether you want to waste your time watching it or not. But… I didn’t like this movie. I honestly can’t believe the studio approved this garbage. I was excited at the prospect of seeing the story of Pet seminar I explored further, but after watching this movie I no longer care. I hate that the creative team ruined this story!
