Walt Disney changed animation in Hollywood forever when he made and released it Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. Well, the iconic film has gotten a 4K restoration, and that version of the film will be released on Disney+ on October 16th. This was done to commemorate the centennial of the Walt Disney Company.
Disney Animation animator/director Eric Goldberg said in a statement: “The opportunity to help restore Snow White was both an honor and a challenge. We felt we owed a debt to the story to make it look as beautiful and true to the original colors as possible.”
He added: “The muted palette and delicate watercolor backgrounds evoke the illustrated fairy tales that Walt so loved, and the story and characters continue to resonate today.”
Snow White it is “widely considered one of Hollywood’s greatest early triumphs. After its original release, the film was awarded by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences with a special honorary Oscar – a large Oscar statuette accompanied by seven smaller ones – which was presented to Walt Disney by Shirley Temple. The film is the highest-rated animated feature film on the American Film Institute’s “100 Years…100 Movies” list and was inducted into the National Film Registry in the registry’s inaugural year, 1989.
The film’s restoration was undertaken by the Walt Disney Studios restoration and preservation team, working closely with key artists at Walt Disney Animation Studios.
While Disney is touting this 4K restoration of Snow White, Disney is making a live-action remake of the film that doesn’t seem to represent the story Walt Disney wanted to tell. The star of the live-action Snow White film, Rachel Ziegler, also doesn’t seem to have any respect for the original animated film as she has shared several thoughts on the film in the past that have been controversial for fans.
The live-action film will not feature the delightful Seven Dwarfs, nor will it feature the magic of true love’s kiss. In the retelling, Snow White is a warrior and leader who won’t need saving from a prince who is “hounding” her.
The description of the animated film reads: “The beautiful and kind Princess Snow White captivates every creature in the kingdom except one: her jealous stepmother, the Queen. When the Magic Mirror proclaims that Snow White is the fairest of all, she must escape into the forest, where she befriends the lovable seven dwarfs: Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, and Dopey. But when the Queen tricks Snow White with an enchanted apple, only the magic of true love’s kiss can save her!
