COMMUNITY creator Dan Harmon offers updates on the upcoming film

Dan Harmonbest known as the creator of hit series Community AND Rick and Mortyis returning to work on the long-awaited spin-off film, Community: the film, which remained on hold during the pandemic. Star returning Joel McHale kept fans updated on the status of the film, always reminding us that it was moving forward, despite the necessary pauses. Now Harmon, who will return to write the film’s screenplay, will also give us an update as he returns to work following the WGA strike.

In an interview with THR, Harmon said he and one of his exes Community writers, Andrea Guest, I still have to hole up for a few days and finish the script. They presented it to buyers, pre-pandemic, as a Greendale Community College reunion (minus Chevy Chase), and have pledged to get it to a place where they can shoot it as-is — or as close to it as possible without rewrites.

“I don’t want these now-superstar people, like Emmy winner Donald Glover, who go to the trouble of coming together out of loyalty to this thing, to come back and once again be faced with blue pages from an intern who contradict totally what they spent all night memorizing,” Harmon says. “I want to have a veneer of ‘Here’s your reward.’ I don’t want them to say, ‘Oh, he hasn’t learned anything, he’s treating us like cattle again.’ ”

Joel McHale will be joined in the film by other co-stars Donald Glover as Troy Barnes; Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir; Alison Brie as Annie Edison; Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry; Jim Rash as Principal Pelton; AND Ken Jeong as Ben Chang. We still don’t know for sure if Yvette Nicole Brown will return, but it seems likely. Keith David he is also expected to reprise his role as Elroy Patashnik.
