A report has surfaced stating this Christopher Nolan he is in talks to direct two of them James Bond movie. This report comes from World of Reel, which states: “The deal being negotiated has Nolan directing two Link films, even writing them both.
The report goes on to offer further details on the next iteration of James Bond. They say that EON and Amazon “are pushing for Nolan and that he is OK in principle, unless his need for creative freedom is met. However, there are some critical points to resolve in terms of tone that could derail things.
According to rumors, EON is looking to do a complete reboot of the franchise for the modern era and they want Nolan to adapt some of Ian Fleming’s classic novels, “in period settings, which stay close to the source material.” The ultimate goal is for Nolan to make three Bond films and have him on board as an executive producer on the franchise moving forward.
They say that “EON and Amazon are putting all their eggs in one basket for Nolan because he wants the job.” If they can’t land Nolan, it’s back to the drawing board. Apparently, for now, no one else has been taken into consideration.
Nolan has been very vocal about wanting to direct a James Bond film, previously saying: “It would be an extraordinary privilege to do one. At the same time, when you play a character like that, you work with a particular set of constraints. It has to be the right time in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really dig into something within the appropriate boundaries because you never want to go through something like that and do it wrong.”
Nolan had already said a few years ago that he had spoken to the producers of the Bond franchise, saying: “I spoke to the producers Barbara Broccoli AND Michael G. Wilson in the years. I love the character deeply and am always excited to see what they do with him. Maybe one day it would work. You should be needed, if you know what I mean. He must need to be reinvented; he must need you. And they get along very well.”
I hope this rumor turns out to be true because I would love nothing more than to see Nolan join the James Bond franchise! But, at the moment, this is a big, fat rumor. Regardless, I like the idea of Nolan developing this as a period spy thriller. I always thought it would be cool to see a period Bond film! We’ll just have to wait and see if this is actually true.
