Netflix has released a new director’s trailer Todd Haynes’ upcoming film May Decemberwhat stars Natalie Portman AND Juliana Moore. The story is set twenty years after an infamous tabloid romance hits the nation, and a seemingly secure married couple with a huge age gap cracks under the pressure when a famous TV actress arrives to do research for a film about their sordid past.
The description reads: “Elizabeth (Portman), a popular TV star, is ingratiating herself into the lives of Gracie (Moore), who she will play on screen, and her much younger husband, Joe (Charles Melton), to better understand the psychology and circumstances that made them famous tabloid figures more than 20 years ago. Starting with a sensational premise, consummate cinematic artist Todd Haynes has constructed an American story of astonishing richness and depth, touching on the pressure and pleasure points of a culture equally obsessed with celebrity and trauma.
The film is said to explore “one of the great talents of the human species: our colossal refusal to look at ourselves.” It certainly looks like it will tell an interesting story, but the film definitely won’t be for everyone. It looks like Portman and Moore will give great performances.
Netflix will release May December in select theaters on November 17, 2023, then streaming on Netflix starting December 1.
