Synopsis of the short film SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE THE SPIDER Within

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hit theaters this summer, and fans have since discovered that Sony Pictures Animation has developed a short film set in the Spider-Verse titled The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story. This short film gives Miles Morales a horror story of sorts.

The film’s story focuses on “what happens when Miles Morales (once again played by Shameik Moore) begins to feel the pressure of his life as Spider-Man, which results in a scary little jaunt through his subconscious.

The short was directed by Jarelle Dampier, and we finally have a full synopsis of the short to share with you! It is read:

“Miles Morales struggles to balance his responsibilities as a teenager, friend, and student while acting as the friendly Brooklyn neighborhood Spider-Man. After a particularly challenging day dealing with these pressures, Miles experiences a panic attack that forces him to face the manifestations of his anxiety and he will learn that asking for help can be an act as courageous as protecting his city from evil.”

Animation Is Film Festival adds, “The Spider Within is the inaugural short film in Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks’ new LENS (Leading and Empowering New Storytellers) program. The program connects emerging filmmakers from underrepresented groups with creative and executive leadership . produce a short film using the existing pipeline of an upcoming feature film. This program will feature the North American premiere of the film, followed by a panel with Jarelle Dampier (director), Khaila Amazan (writer), Clara Chan (VFX supervisor) and Joe Darko (animation supervisor), moderated by Michelle Raimo-Kouyate and David Schulenburg (producers/creators of the LENS program).”

The short film will be screened at the next Animation Is Film Festival, from October 21st to 23rd in Los Angeles. The inner spider will be screened at the TCL Chinese Theaters in Los Angeles on October 21st.
