The director’s first teaser trailer has been released Matthew Vaughnis the next spy thriller Argyle. The film features a stellar cast that includes Henry Cavill, Bruce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Sofia Boutella, Ariana DeBose, Catherine O’HaraAND Samuel L. Jackson.
The teaser is a promo for a full trailer that’s due out tomorrow, and shows Howard watching in terror as Rockwell throws his cat off the ledge of a building, and it falls in slow motion. The film’s synopsis reads:
Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise) is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling spy novels, whose idea of happiness is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books, centering on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate, begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.
Accompanied by Aiden (Sam Rockwell), a spy allergic to cats, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of assassins as the lines between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begin to blur.
It looks like a fun movie that’s along the same lines as the classic 80’s film Romancing the Stone. The film was originally marketed as an adaptation of a spy novel of the same name by the author Ellie Conwaybut it turns out that the novel does not exist and the author is actually a fictional character that Howard plays in the film.
It was previously revealed that this will be the first of at least three films in the series and is set in America, London and several locations around the world.
Jason Fuchs he wrote the screenplay and is producing it alongside Vaughn’s regular collaborators Adam Bohling AND David Reid. Vaughn previously said: “When I read this first draft manuscript, I thought it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Flemingbooks from the 1950s. This will reinvent the spy genre.
Oh, and the cat in the movie, Aflie, is played by Chip, Vaughn’s pet cat. Argyle will be released in theaters on February 2, 2024.
