Grand Admiral Thrawn’s Night Troopers are an army of the dead in STAR WARS: AHSOKA!

One of the greatest gifts that Star Wars: Ahsoka that he’s given us so far was in episode 6, “Far Far, Away,” which saw Grand Admiral Thrawn make his big live-action debut and saw him leading a damned army of the dead! The Stormtroopers we were introduced to in the episode… have all been resurrected from the dead!

For those of you who don’t remember Star Wars Rebels, all of Thrawn’s Stormtroopers who served aboard the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Chimaera were killed, many of them in brutal ways before Thrawn and Ezra flew to an unknown part of the universe. Well, thanks to the Nightsisters and their magical powers, these Stormtroopers have been brought back to life and are now known as Night Troopers.

Former Inquisitor Marrok was an undead warrior brought back to life by the Nightsisters. Obviously he was the prototype used in the series to get us used to the idea that this kind of thing could be done. When we finally see any of these Night Troopers killed, we can expect them to evaporate into green smoke like Marrok.

The Night Troopers are led by Captain Enoch and they all sport a really cool and unique look with the Night Troopers armor featuring cracks filled with gold and gray accents and red fabric stripes. The Night Trooper’s armor has a Japanese Kintsugi aesthetic. “Kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery by repairing the broken areas with hardened lacquer dusted or mixed most commonly with gold.”

Thrawn’s undead army will be a force to be reckoned with because, although they are expendable, they will certainly be stronger and more ferocious than the other Stormtroopers.

This whole element is super exciting to me! I’ve always wanted to see an army of zombie Stormtroopers come to life in a Star Wars story, and here it is! We have two episodes left and I can’t wait to see what happens and what kind of other information we learn about the Night Troopers.
