FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S He found inspiration in Stephen Spielberg’s films and JOKER

After years of trying to get a film adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s done, the movie is finally coming out this year and the horror movie really looks like it’s going to be a blast! I’m excited about this! I’m excited to take my daughter, who grew up playing the, to see it Five Nights at Freddy’s video game.

Even though the movie is based on a game, and that’s where most of the inspiration came from, director Emma Tammi recently explained in an interview with Total Film, the film was also inspired Steven Spielberge’s cinematic style Todd Phillips’ Joker. She explained:

“We were constantly referencing Steven Spielberg – you know, that quality of childlike wonder. Along with a kind of darker world that felt similar to Joker.

“Those were some of the cinematic references that Lyn Moncrief and I were looking for. Also, just the haunted house element was a big influence. Some of our scenes that deal with our main character’s past and memory are were also influenced by UN [Terrence] Malick style of shooting, to give them a more dreamlike quality… those scenes that took place at a campsite in the forest. There were a lot of different types of references that we drew on to really create something that felt unique.”

From the footage we’ve seen in the trailers released for the film, it’s not hard to see some of these influences. It seems that Spielberg’s work and style always serve as inspiration for many films. The guy has told some of cinema’s greatest stories, so obviously other filmmakers will look to him for inspiration.

The film follows “a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. As he spends his first night on the job, he realizes that it won’t be so easy to complete the night shift at Freddy’s. You see, there are ghost children who have giant animatronics that they want to terrorize.

He is the protagonist Josh Hutcherson (Ultraman, Hunger Games), Elizabeth Lail (You, Mack and Rita), Piper Rubio (Holly & Ivy, Unstable), Kat Conner Sterling (We have a ghost, 9-1-1), with Mary Stuart Masterson (Blind spot, fried green tomatoes) AND Matthew Lillard (Good girls, scream).

The film will be released on October 27.
