Hulu’s upcoming R-rated comedy Quiz ladyhero Awkwafina (Crazy rich Asians, Shang Chi) AND Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy, Kill Eve), will be the last film appearance of the late actor Pee-wee Herman, Paul Rubens. The beloved actor died on July 30 after a private six-year battle with cancer.
Reubens appears in a cameo as himself in the 20th Century Studios film, in which he also stars Holland Taylor, Jason Schwartzmann, Tony Hale, Jon “Amazed” Park AND Will Ferrell.
Awkwafina stars in Quiz Lady as Anne, an introverted woman who reluctantly teams up with her chaotic sister Jenny (Oh) when their mother’s gambling debts lead to the kidnapping of her dog. In an attempt to win the ransom money, they plot to get Anne involved in her favorite TV show and turn her into a quiz champion.
Reubens filmed his brief scene with Taylor last June, a rep for the actor confirms. He also filmed interviews for a still-dated HBO documentary project produced by Josh and Benny Safdiefirst announced in 2021. An appearance earlier this year to voice the character of Pat on Bob’s Burgers it marked another of his final roles.
Quiz Lady was filmed last year in Los Angeles and will debut on Hulu on November 3.
