Several years ago, Star Wars Rebels co-creator Simone Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) was brought in by Lucasfilm to develop a Boba Fett movie. This was a long time ago The Mandalorian came on the scene, and Josh Trank (News) was supposed to direct this version of the Boba Fett movie.
The project fell apart after Trank’s Fantastic Four the film bombed at the box office and Lucasfilm removed it from the project.
During a recent interview with Polygon, Kinberg was asked about his work on Boba Fett project and offered some details about what he intended to do with the film. He compared the project to 2017’s Logan in terms of tone and look. He also explained what his role at Lucasfilm turned into:
“Tonally, like Logan. Bordering on R-rated, although I don’t think there would be a Star Wars movie that would be R-rated. But either way, I think over time, my role has morphed into that of a friend.” of the court. And so it went from being a consultant on films, giving thoughts, notes, sometimes actual script pages, and of course co-creating Star Wars Rebels and really staying with that show that I loved. What was exciting about Rebels was that we could do something that the films I just mentioned couldn’t do, which was create a completely new set of characters.”
Logan director James Mangold he was then hired by Lucasfilm to develop a Boba Fett film, but that project never moved forward either. Lucasfilm obviously liked the idea of a Logan-style Boba Fett movie, but I guess it was never meant to be.
Boba Fett ended up being reintroduced in Star Wars universe inside The Mandalorianwhich led to his series, The Boba Fett bookwhich should have been much better than it was.
