After years of trying to get a new film adaptation of The Raven from the ground, it finally happened with the director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) AND Bill Skarsgard taking on the role of protagonist. The film’s production has wrapped, but audiences have yet to get a look at the film’s visual style.
Regardless, producer Sam Pressman recently talked about the film and hyped it, saying it will “blow people’s minds.” He also teased that the film could end up launching an entire extended universe for the franchise and seems very confident that what they’ve done will be a big hit with fans.
He explained to Deadline: “The Crow has been a central and integral part of our company and I’m really proud of the progress and the work that’s been done. I think the film will blow people’s minds. Our partners want to approach it in a 360-degree way °, whether it’s video games, an animated series or a universe, but it has this cosmic legacy that can expand beyond a single story.”
He added: “We’re finally at a point where we can really explore other avenues because it’s a very unique property in that it’s not a studio movie, it’s not a Marvel movie — it’s kind of the anti-Marvel movie. I have the biggest hopes for that and I really love what Molly Hassell has done pushing up the hill and Rupert Sanders is a true visionary.”
Skarsgård takes on the role of Eric Draven and the story follows a man and his girlfriend who are attacked and killed by a gang after their car breaks down. The man is resurrected by a crow and embarks on a dark journey of revenge against those who took his life and that of his fiancée.
The singer-songwriter is also present in the film Twigs FKA (treasure), Danny Houston (Succession), Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A son), AND Giordano Bolger (The Woman King). The film will reinvent the 1994 cult classic that played a memorable role Brandon Lee in his last film role.
The film is based on the graphic novel of the gothic character created, written and illustrated by James O’Barr. The reboot script comes from Zach Baylin (King Richard) AND Will Schneider.
The film was recently purchased by Lionsgate, but we don’t know when it will be released. Do you think the film will live up to the hype the producer is setting?
