SESSION 9 Director Brad Anderson will direct George A. Romero’s TWILIGHT OF THE DEAD

Before dying, George A. Romero was developing another zombie film project titled Twilight of the Dead. Romero’s heirs have been trying to develop the project and bring it to fruition in recent months.

Romero wrote a treatment in 2017 and considered it the conclusion to his epic zombie saga. The film’s script was completed by Joe Knetter, Robert LucasAND Paolo Zelatiwho all worked together with Romero on the original treatment.

The story is set on a tropical island and will “delve into the dark nature of humanity from the perspective of the last humans on earth who are caught between factions of the undead.” The film is also described as a “thought-provoking sociopolitical commentary wrapped up in a genre piece.”

Now we have learned that the film will be directed by Brad Anderson and that the film will be shot by the end of the year. I like Anderson as a director! He has directed films such as Session 9, The Machinist, Trans-Siberian, The Call, AND Stonehearst Asylum. It’s an interesting but great choice to undertake this project.

Anderson said in a statement: “George Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead it may have been the first true horror film I ever saw, and its shock value, its strong social relevance, and even the means by which it was made were all very inspiring to me. This is also a zombie movie where limbs fly and heads roll, but it’s also about social transformation, and asks the question: what does it mean to be human? It is also a horror film with “heart” and, dare I say, hope.”

Susanna Romero said in a statement: “I am delighted to join forces with Roundtable to bring the disturbing evolution of Romero’s universe to the screen. Roundtable impressed me with their deep and abiding love for George’s work. I believe they have the vision to produce the best version of this film that honors Romero’s legacy. I can’t wait to start filming!”

Responsible for Roundtable scripts Giovanni Baldecchi adds: “We are thrilled to work alongside Suzanne, Paolo and Stephanie to bring the final chapter of this epic series to life. It’s the perfect ending to one of the greatest horror legacies of all time, with a powerful and timely message about how humanity causes its own destruction, over and over and over again.”

Anderson is a talented director and I’m curious to see what he ends up doing with Romero’s project. I’m sure he will do it justice and he will deliver something that fans will enjoy.
