Prime Video has released the first trailer for the courtroom drama series The burial hero Jamie Foxx AND Tommy Lee Jones. The movie is based on a true story adapted from Jonathan Harr’s 1999 New Yorker article of the same name. It looks like a good movie and it looks like Foxx is giving a great performance!
The film tells the story of personal injury attorney Willie E. Gary (Foxx) who ends up helping the owner of a funeral home named Jeremiah Joseph O’Keefe (Jones) in a contract dispute against the firm of Loewen Funeral Home.
The synopsis reads: “When a handshake deal goes awry, funeral home owner Jeremiah O’Keefe hires the charismatic and soft-spoken attorney Willie E. Gary to save the family business. Tempers flare and laughter erupts as the unlikely pair bond as they expose corporate corruption and racial injustice in this inspiring and triumphant story.
The film is directed by Maggie Betts who spoke about Foxx’s casting in the film saying, “The real Willie Gary has a huge, out-of-this-world personality, and I knew Jamie had the talent, charisma and scope to bring this complex film and multifaceted character on screen. He was perfect for the role and brought so much more humanity and vulnerability to the character than I ever expected, which, as a director, was very exciting to work with.”
He added: “The film is triumphant and inspiring and will leave audiences laughing, cheering and feeling deeply.”
The film is also the protagonist Jurnee Smollett AND Alan Ruck and will premiere September 11 at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Burial will then release in select theaters on October 6 before arriving on Prime Video on October 13.
