SCREAM VII director Christopher Landon explains how he made the film and says it was “always meant to be”

With the Radio silence the directing team focused on making a monster movie for Universal Pictures and a remake Escape from New Yorkthey had to give up Scream VII to another director to take over the horror franchise. That director ended up being Christopher Landonwho directed films such as Happy Death Day AND Capricious. He’s made some great horror movies and it seems like the He shouted the franchise would be perfect for its cinematic and storytelling style.

During a recent interview on SiriusXM The Jess Cagle ShowLandon was asked Scream VII and how that ended up landing in his lap, and he explained that it was always meant to be. He said:

“It came out of nowhere for me. As far as I can tell, there had been conversations going on for some time. But I think it was just an opportunity that really presented itself because the other directors who made the last two films, Tyler and Matt, wanted “To do something else. They were ready to do something different. That’s when they obviously had to find someone new, and I’ve known Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original film, for a long, long time and he’s a friend. I think he put my name in the hat and everyone was like, “Yeah, that makes sense. That seems to make sense.” And I was really excited to get that call because it really felt like, it felt like it was kismet, it felt like something it was always meant to be.”

There is no information on who will write Scream VIIbut the last two movies were written by James Vanderbilt AND Guy Busick. Landon is also a screenwriter, so I’m guessing he’ll at least co-write the script.

As for the cast, I’m guessing that most, if not all, of the surviving main characters will return, so that includes Melissa Barrara, Jenna Ortega, Freemason GoodingAND Brown Savoy Jasmine. It would also be nice to see Hayden Panettiere.

I’m curious to see where they take the story next as the creative team tries to keep the franchise fresh.
