THE FRIGHTENERS by Peter Jackson and Michael J. Fox is finally available for streaming

I’m a big fan of the director Peter Jackson AND Michael J. Foxis a 1996 horror comedy The Scary Ones, and this is a film that hasn’t made it to a major streaming service until now. This was the film that got me interested in Jackson’s work and led me to discover it Dead alive, Bad taste, Meet the weakAND Celestial creatures.

The Scary Ones it was Jackson’s first major Hollywood film and he subsequently made it The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I really wish Jackson would make more movies! He doesn’t really need to, but he’s such a talented director and makes such funny movies that it’s a shame he doesn’t direct anymore these days.

Either way, it’s great to see The Frighteners will finally be available to stream! The movie is coming to the Peacock just in time for the Halloween season!

The Frighteners follows the story of Frank Bannister, a man who, after a tragic accident, develops the ability to see and communicate with ghosts. He uses this ability to scam people into haunting his ghostly friends in their homes, only for Frank to then “exorcise” them for a fee. However, when a malevolent spirit begins killing people, leaving numbers on their foreheads that count down to each death, Frank realizes that he must use his unique abilities to stop this deadly ghost. As he delves deeper into the mystery, he discovers the spirit’s connection to a series of deaths that occurred years ago and must face his past to save the city.

At one point a few years ago, it was reported that a series adaptation of The Frighteners was in development, but there’s been no update since then, so I’m pretty sure that won’t happen again.
