This week’s retro trailer is for the 1984 slasher horror film Splatter University, in honor of all those kids out there who are starting college soon! “Earn a higher rank… in terror!”
Splatter University is directed by Richard W. Haines and the story revolves around St. Trinian’s College, a once peaceful institution that becomes a place of terror when a psychotic killer escapes from a nearby asylum and takes refuge on campus.
The film mainly follows Julie Parker, a young teacher who arrives at the school, unaware of her deadly history. As students begin to disappear or are found brutally murdered, Julie becomes determined to uncover the killer’s identity. Suspicions abound, and the film’s climax reveals a surprising twist as to the identity of the killer.
Splatter University is best remembered for its graphic violence and campy B-movie quality. Like many slasher films of the era, it has gained a cult following over the years thanks to its over-the-top gore and offbeat characters.
The film was part of the wave of slasher films that capitalized on the success of blockbusters such as Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw MassacreAND friday the 13th, although Splatter University remains a darker title in the genre. Enjoy the trailer!
