Meg Ryan directs and stars in a new romantic comedy titled What happens nextand the first trailer for the film was released. David Duchovny she also stars opposite Ryan in the film, on which it is based Steven Dietzit’s a game Shooting star.
The story centers on two old flames who meet after snow falls on their flights and end up spending the night in an airport reliving the past.
The official synopsis reads: “Two ex-lovers, Bill (Duchovny) and Willa (Ryan) become snowed in at a regional airport overnight. With an indefinite delay, Willa, a magical thinker, and Bill, a doomsday person, find themselves drawn to and annoyed by each other just as they were decades before. But as they solve the riddle of their shared past and compare their lives with the dreams they once shared, they begin to wonder if their reunion is a mere coincidence or something more enchanted.
Ryan opened up about the film during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, “It has a relationship to 1940s movies, like Raise the child, in terms of the beats and pace of things and so much of that era of cinema. Nora Ephron said rom-coms really were a secretly amazing way to comment on the times, and we do that in this film.
It’s great to see Meg Ryan in a movie again! I also love that you play alongside Duchovny. It looks like it’s going to be a funny and charming rom-com.
What happens next will be released in theaters on October 13.
