Michael Mann says he wants to make HEAT 2, but he won’t feel incomplete if he doesn’t

Director Michael Mann he is best known for making hard-hitting dramas such as The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, WingsAND Collateraland fans were thrilled when they found out that Mann had returned to the characters he created in the crime film Heat, and had written a 500-page novel that serves as a prequel and sequel to the film. Since then, Mann has confirmed that he wanted to make the film version of this book, and fans have been thrilled.

We haven’t had any news about it for a while Heat 2but Mann had a discussion with Variety, which profiled his most recent projects, and said the story he wrote will touch on who his characters were before we met them in the original film:

“In the prequel, I don’t want them to be the same people they are in the movie. I want them to be very different. It is what happens to them – the conflicts, the tragedies that happen to them – that has made them who they are.”

Michael Mann turned 80 earlier this year and when asked if he felt time was running out to make this film, the director said:

“The thing is, I don’t think about mortality. I’m busy. What would I need? If I absolutely had to do ‘Heat 2’, I wouldn’t have missed out on this beautiful Ferrari story. And it took me two years to write a novel. Luckily, it became a #1 bestseller. 1 of the New York Times. The things that interest me are the things that fascinate me and keep me going.

He then clarified:

“Do not misunderstand. I want to make it. But if I don’t, I won’t be incomplete.”

I hope it happens for him and for the fans of the franchise. But if that doesn’t happen, we won’t be incomplete.
