Here is a great trailer for the upcoming dating thriller Cat person. This movie was a big hit at Sundance, and it’s one of the movies that makes me happy to be married and not have to play the dating game anymore. This film highlights all the horrors of dating.
The film centers on Margot, “a college student who works in an art house theatre, meets Robert, a regular, rather elderly local spectator, at her workplace. Counter flirting evolves into constant texting. As the two move closer to romance and move on with each other, awkward moments, red flags and discomforts pile up. Margot feels attacked and secretive, as her hesitations blossom into vivid daydreams in which Robert realizes her most threatening potential. As her distrust and uncertainty grow one evening, their relationship and possibly their lives unravel.
The film is based on Kristen Roupeniani’ 2017 self-titled short story published in The New Yorker. The movie stars Emily Jones (TAIL) AND Nicholas Braun (Succession) and their awkward relationship ends in a strangely scary place.
Corrine said in her review of the film, “Emilia Jones and Nicholas Braun have terrible chemistry, I mean that in the best possible way. I love both of these actors and think they’ve done a fantastic job. I moaned and laughed audibly at how realistic some of the scenes reminded me of my college dating experiences, as I’m sure many of you will tell. Despite a script all over the place, this film is fun to watch. Especially if you like to relive all your worst and most embarrassing dates.
The film was directed by Susanna Fogel (A little light, the flight attendant) from a script written by Michelle Ashford (Masters of sex). The film will be released in theaters on October 6, 2023.
