The equalizer 3 is being marketed as the final film in the action thriller series, but director Antonio Fuqua he considered making a prequel film. Not only that, given the progress of technology in recent years, he wants to tell the story of the origins with a de-aged approach Denzel Washington.
Fuqua told NME in a recent new interview: “I definitely thought about it a lot. Especially now with new technology and artificial intelligence and all that kind of stuff… There’s a story to be told about how [McCall] he became this person, the younger version. I had that conversation with [‘Equalizer’ screenwriter] Richard Wenk a lot.”
But he still hasn’t had that conversation with Washington! The director added, “I haven’t talked to Denzel about it yet. It’s all so fresh and new. I’m still watching [the technology]. I’ve seen Harrison Ford’s film and I know there are more to come. I think Sony will release one with Tom Hanks soon [Robert Zemeckis’ ‘Here’]. And I hear the technology is getting better and better. So I’m watching it to see where it goes.
Actors aging is happening more and more these days. I still remember the Jeff Bridges facelift in the Tron: Legacy! The technology has certainly come a long way since then and is getting better and better. It’s truly amazing what is being done. The rejuvenation of Harrison Ford In Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny it was damn impressive.
Speaking about the upcoming third film, Fuqua said, “The first film was about [McCall] find a purpose. And it’s very external, right? It’s helping people. The second is more about making peace with his past. He was betrayed by his friends and [his colleague] he dies and his wife is dead… And then this is more of a moral dilemma because he’s a darker character… He’s struggling with violence and brutality.”
In the film, “Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrible things he’s done in the past and finds a strange comfort in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly comfortable in Southern Italy, she discovers that his new friends are under the thumb of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he must do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mob.
The equalizer 3 will debut in theaters on September 1.
