MGM+ has released the trailer for the upcoming docuseries Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein. Ed Gein was the notorious serial killer and grave robber who inspired several horror movie characters including Buffalo Bill from The silence of the lambsNorman Bates from Psychopathand Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
The four-part docuseries will explore the life of Gein, otherwise known as “The Plainfield Ghoul” and “The Mad Butcher,” and his horrific crimes. For those of you who are into true crime, like me, then this project will definitely interest you. No doubt it will tell a chilling story with details you’ve never heard or seen before.
The series description reads: “For years, filmmakers, journalists and scholars have sought to unravel the mind of this notorious killer, and with new revelations and never-before-heard recordings, viewers will be transported to late 1950s Central America . and plunged into the twisted mind of Gein. The series explores Gein’s upbringing and twisted relationship with his mother (which famously inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho), his early grave robbings, the murders that led to his arrest, and the police discovery of his terrifying house of horrors, all accompanied by the brand-new revelations revealed in the recordings.

The documentary is directed and produced by James Buddy Day (Blumhouse’s Compendium of Horror, Fall River), and will premiere September 17 on MGM+.
