The director of Once, Sing awayAND Start over, John Carneyhas made a new film titled Flora and son. The movie stars Eve Hewson AND Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for you to watch.
I had the opportunity to watch the film at Sundance earlier this year and it was one of my favorite films from the festival. It’s simply a beautifully crafted and enjoyable film, and after watching it audiences will walk away feeling inspired and happy.
In the film, “Single mom Flora (Hewson) doesn’t know what to do with her wayward teenage son, Max (Oren Kinlan). Encouraged by the police to find a hobby for Max, Flora tries to occupy him with a battered acoustic guitar. With the help of a retired Los Angeles musician (Gordon-Levitt), Flora and Max discover the transformative power of music.
The film’s story explores “the bond between a mother and son on a journey to a new harmony”. As I said in my review: “I’m a huge fan of Carney and his past films and like them, this is pure magic that tells a beautiful and funny story about a feisty young mother living in Dublin, Ireland, who it is co-parenting with his troublemaker son.He is at a crossroads in his life, and it is at this point that he finds a guitar, fixes it, and embarks on an inspiring journey of growth and self-discovery.
Flora and son even stars Jack Reynor and will premiere in select theaters on September 22 and stream on September 29. This is just one of those little indie film gems that you have to watch!
