Emily Blunt Talks Why She Had to Turn Down Black Widow Role in the MCU & Debunks Other Marvel Rumors

Actress Emilia Blunt has done a little bit of everything from iconic and memorable roles like the one in The devil wears Pradaaction movie like Edge of tomorrowhis own horror franchise A quiet placeand her Disney roles in Mary Poppins Returns AND Jungle cruise. He also recently starred in the Oscar contender blockbuster Oppenheimer. But fans have connected her to Marvel roles since the creation of the MCU, and she’s finally talking about it.

She was a final contender for the role of Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in Iron man 2, but ultimately had to turn the part down due to a contractual obligation to Fox. In a 2019 interview, Blunt said on the Howard Stern show on SiriusXM that she was “contracted to do Gullever’s Travels” in 2010 even though she didn’t want to.

“It’s been a bit of a heartthrob for me because I’m so proud of the decisions I make, and they mean so much to me, the movies I make, so it’s been tough,” she said of turning down the Marvel role. . “They [Fox] kind of have a little hold on you. There were other films I wanted to do.”

But it’s a great sport for the whole thing, as she stated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “Come on, the best girl got it,” she said of Johansson, adding that she was “awesome.”

As for the other roles Blunt is rumored to be attached to, they include Captain Marvel, which ultimately went to Brie Larson; Peggy Carter, who Hayley Atwell ended up playing; and Fantastic Four’s Sue Storm, which went to Jessica Alba and Kate Mara in different adaptations of the franchise. But Blunt said of the parties: “Rumours. Speak. Queries. That sort of thing,” noting that he never met the directors or producers on any of those projects.

Blunt has had an amazing career so far and could still end up in a Marvel film. But even if he doesn’t, I can’t wait to see what other film choices he makes.

Blunt will soon star in the Netflix drama Cheaters of pain, which will debut on October 27. Next March she will appear in the action drama, The fallen boy. She will be voicing a character in the star-studded film Imaginary Friends, written and directed by her husband, John Krasinski, due out next May. And a Disney sequel Jungle cruise it is under development.
