The first project to be released by DC Studios will be James Gunn’S Commandos creature animated series. The Creature Commando squad consists of monsters and superheroes who are fighting the Nazis during World War II.
In the series, the Creature Commandos work under the supervision of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). It was previously explained that the project’s story is so big that the only way it could be told is through animation because it would be too expensive to make for live-action. But it was previously revealed that many of these characters will also “play the live-action roles later in the DCU.”
Gunn recently offered an update on the project on social media and confirmed that the series will consist of seven episodes. He also revealed that all voice recording for the show’s first season was completed prior to the actor’s strike, so work on the series can proceed.
Voice cast includes Sean Gunn as Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma like the bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk like Doctor Phosphorus, David Port as Eric Frankenstein, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos from Peacemaker.
Gunn previously said of the series, “Creature Commandos is based on the great team at DC. What we’re doing with the DCU is animation is tied directly to live action. Television, movies and games all intertwine.” within the same universe. We’re going to cast actors who will be able to play characters in this as well as other things, some of which we’ve already picked out. I’ve written all seven episodes of the show.
Creature Commandos doesn’t have a release date yet, but Gunn has confirmed that the series will release before his film Superman: Legacywhich is currently scheduled for July 11, 2025.
