Greta Gervig’S Barbie AND Christopher Nolan’S Oppenheimer were released in theaters last weekend and both did great numbers at the box office! Barbie exploded with a worldwide opening of $337 million and Oppenheimer it earned $174 million worldwide.
Both movies are great, but we always knew that Barbie it would have been the biggest draw at the box office because it is Barbie and it’s an interesting film to a wider range of people. He made more money than The flash AND Fast X. Oppenheimer is an R-rated three-hour historical drama, and the fact that it has done so much is impressive. Even if he won’t earn as much as Barbie, will end up winning a lot of prizes. But even Barbie might have a few.
As for “Barbieheimer’s” box office numbers this weekend, Michael O’LearyPresident and CEO of the National Association of Theater Owners said:
“This has been a phenomenal experience for people who love movies on the big screen. It was a truly historic weekend and continues the positive box office momentum of 2023. More importantly, it proves once again that America loves going to the theaters to see great movies. People recognized that something special was happening and wanted to be a part of it. Our partners in the creative community and studios delivered two uniquely clever and original stories meant for the big screen to audiences, and movie lovers responded by gathering friends and family and heading to their local theaters across the nation. The men and women who run our theaters have also responded by creating one-of-a-kind promotions and events to further enhance the movie experience for movie enthusiasts. This weekend is a shining example of how there is simply no substitute for seeing a movie at the cinema.
I love that two big movies came out at the same time this weekend. In the past, this was a normal thing! There were good movies that hit theaters on the same day all the time I was growing up! I loved those days! The days when there were so many good movie options in cinemas. I was always doing double duty!
Times have changed, though. Now, studios don’t like releasing big movies back to back and they just hand out the releases. I wish more of these kind of movies came out in the same weekend! It’s always nice to have loads of great movie options in theaters! I think it actually helps fuel the box office and get people into theaters.
Did you like these movies!?
