Netflix recently shared a new trailer for its adaptation of the hit anime A piece and the creator of the manga, Eiichiro Oda, he answered. There are a lot of mixed reactions from fans, but if you’re wondering what Oda thinks, she’s thrilled! She shared a lengthy note on social media, saying:
“So, the live action One Piece! The teaser and trailer are now available, and the launch date of the show itself is set for August 31st. I will say this. There was no compromise on this show! And the celebrations have already begun! It’s already fun to see the barrage of reactions after each release of information. And the very fact that the live action adaptation of One Piece was conceived 7 years ago is incredible! How will this world come to life?!
“There was so much going on — All the efforts of the actors, the world-building and the costumes, presenting things in a way that can only be done in live action, the dialogue — and the whole process of so many people putting their heads together was a party in and of itself. After the launch, I’m sure I’ll hear from some people pointing out how this character is missing or some scene is omitted, or this part is different from the manga. But I’m sure they’ll come from a place of love, so I intend to enjoy it those comments too!LOL the story will span 8 episodes and take us through you-know-where!!
“Even after filming wrapped, there were numerous scenes that the production agreed to reshoot because they felt they weren’t good enough to be made public. On the other hand, there were also some lines that I thought didn’t look like Luffy on paper…but when I saw the filmed scenes, I thought, ‘It works when Inaki plays him as Luffy! In fact, it works great!’ There were so many things that needed to be done to keep things from looking too unnatural in live action.
“The producers and crew are live action pros, and quite frankly, they’re also One Piece superfans. The more knowledgeable you are about One Piece, the more likely you’ll notice the love they’ve poured into this one. It was June when we made the final decision to go ahead and launch this show. My editor, who had worked so hard on this, cried, saying, ‘It’s been such a long ride…’ LOL. Not that working hard on anything guarantees success, of course.
“By now I love this production team and the cast so much that I can’t wait for them to get the acclaim they deserve from all over the world. And if by any chance people have any complaints, I will be there to receive them together! Now, whatever feelings you choose to have in the meantime, it will be another month, so please have some tea while you wait!”
Hearing stuff like that from the creator gets me excited about the series. I love that he is so passionate about it and to celebrate the trailer release Oda also made a fantastic poster art for the series!
