Peacock has announced his upcoming three-part John Wick prequel series The Continental will premiere on Friday, September 22, with episode 2 arriving on September 29 and the third and final episode will air on October 6.
This little bit of news was announced at Comic-Con over the weekend, where they shared some action-packed clips from the series. I was there to watch the footage and they sure don’t hold back from the blood and violence!
There was one particular scene that took place in a stairwell with an assassin being attacked by a horde of bad guys who wanted to kill him. It was nonstop hardcore gun-fu action, and it’s the kind of action that will make John Wick fans happy.
The story of the series will be told through the eyes and actions of Winston Scott, “who is drawn into the hellish 1975 New York City to face a past he thought he had left behind. Winston plots a deadly path through the mysterious underworld of New York in a harrowing bid to take over the iconic hotel, which serves as a meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals.
Executive producer Basil Iwankyk said, “The four Wick films take place over three months… John is either being chased or being chased. There was no time to catch a breath, to allow the audience to delve deeper into the world and its people.”
He added: “In our show, The Continentalfinally we have space to explore these characters, how they became who they are and how The Continental became the epicenter of this world. Combine that with the introduction of new characters who are as compelling as any in the John Wick universe. Crazy and imaginative action. Easter Eggs that will thrill hardcore Wick fans. And what I love most: a vision of 1970s New York that embodies the sensuality, edginess and visceral style that the franchise is known for. This show will look/sound/smell better than any show out there.
The series is the protagonist Colin Woodell as a young Winston Scott; Ayomide Adegunwho will play a young Charon (based on Lance Reddickcharacter of); Peter Greenewearing Uncle Charlie’s fedora (based on the tight-lipped body disposal expert); Mel Gibson like Cormac; Ben Robson as Frankie; Hubert Point-Du Jour like miles; Jessica Allain like Lou; Mishel Prada as KD; AND Nhung Kate like Yen.
Chris Mansolillo, Director, Content Acquisition, Prime Video said in a statement: “The John Wick films have created one of the most immersive, detailed and entertaining universes we have seen on screen in the last decade. We are extremely proud to play a part in continuing to build that universe, giving viewers insight into the origins of the infamous Continental Hotel and its incredible characters.”
The series was written and executive produced by Greg Coolidge (Wayne, ride) AND Kirk Ward (Wayne), who also serve as showrunners. David Leitch, Derek Kolstad, Erica Lee, Chad Stahelski, Paul WernickAND Rhett Reese they will also serve as executive producers.
The three-part event will hit Peacock later this year in September 2023.
