In the past two weeks, rumors have been spreading about the president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy and an ongoing investigation at Disney and Lucasfilm regarding his finances. It is also said that she was fired. There have been rumors in the past about Kennedy being fired, but these recent reports may actually have teeth.
One source with a fickle reputation tweeting in late June, “Heard Kathleen Kennedy is now missing from Lucasfilm.” I’ve also heard something to that effect, but didn’t want to share anything until I had some more information to work with. I didn’t want to get ahead of myself, but it looks like there’s definitely something going on at Lucasfilm regarding Kennedy.
As of now, as I understand it, Kennedy has not been fired…yet. I hear that she’s been put on paid leave, though, and that Disney has taken over her computer and there’s a team of investigators going through all of her emails and financial records.
Some people believe that the reason Kennedy’s finances are being investigated is because he embezzled money from the studio, but this has not been confirmed. It could also be something else. This investigation is said to have been initiated by the CEO Bob Iger and his inner circle.
Apparently, the investigation team is also going through other employees’ emails and checking their computers trying to find more information about Kennedy. These are just a few information points, but from what people are saying, Kennedy could be removed as president of Lucasfilm.
It will certainly be interesting to see what happens in the coming months. None of this information has officially come from the studio, so consider all of this as a rumor for now.
