It’s not hard to see the influence that James Bond had on the movies of Christopher Nolan. He even admits, “The influence of those films on my filmography is embarrassingly evident.” It’s kind of strange that Nolan has yet to direct a James Bond film, but if the opportunity presents itself, it seems he would gladly jump at the opportunity.
During a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Nolan spoke about the possibility of directing one by saying, “It would be an incredible privilege to do one. At the same time, when you take on a character like that, you’re working with a particular set of constraints.”
Nolan continued, “It has to be the right time in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really dig into something within the proper bounds because you never want to go through something like that and do it wrong.”
Nolan previously shared a few years ago that he’s spoken to the producers of the Bond franchise, saying, “I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli AND Michael G. Wilson in the years. I deeply love the character and am always excited to see what they do with it. Maybe one day it would work. You should be needed, if you know what I mean. It has to be reinvented; He needs you. And they’re getting along really well.”
Right now, the producers are trying to figure out how to reboot the franchise with Daniel Craig no longer playing 007. They need to find a new Bond and a new direction to take the franchise. Maybe they should bring in Nolan to help build the next James Bond installment!
I have no doubt Nolan would make a great Bond film, hopefully we get to see him do it one day!
