With The Venture Bros. movie coming out later this month, there was a big Comic-Con panel scheduled and it’s one of the panels I was really excited to attend because I’m definitely a huge fan of the franchise, and I was really looking forward to it the film.
Well, it was recently announced that The Venture Bros. creators Doctor Hammer AND Jackson Publick will not participate in the event due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Doc Hammer shared a statement with fans on Instagram saying:
“There I was, tickets to San Diego (which I purchased myself) in my pocket, silly tuxedo I bought ready to go, bags full of pins and fan memorabilia, almost out the door promoting our movie at Comic Con. Then… SAG•AFTRA goes on strike, heart breaks into a thousand pieces… twice.
“I do not choose to stand by my union, because there is no choice. I stand by our actors and our union because we are one. A strike hurts, and it is done as a last resort. Sit down and go on strike when you have nothing to lose, everything to gain, and watching others bleed for you as you accept the fruits of their suffering is just… just… No. But now I have everything to lose… Heart breaks for the third time This is one of those moments of adulthood that tells you who you are. I have just discovered that I am a worker who cares and stands up for his fellow workers.
“I will grieve with them and I will because what SAG•AFTRA is asking for is important. We truly appreciate all of you so much. Jackson and I did something just for you, but we are proud of the bigger picture of our union, and so we are pulled out of Comic Con. We owe you a thousand warm hugs and apologies to anyone who might have planned to meet. We will meet one day, and that’s a promise. We love you.”
So it sucks. But we have a new clip to share with you The Venture Bros.: Radiant is baboon heart blood, which will end the franchise. It’s so sad that this beloved animated franchise is ending and the creators won’t be showing up at Comic-Con to talk about it. Super disappointed!
