As soon as the animated blockbuster Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse released in theaters in 2018, fans were excited to see what was in store for Miles Morales, aka Spider-Man, in this beautiful universe. We had to wait five years for his return Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse, but the second movie upped the ante in such a fun and jaw-dropping way, with a cliffhanger to boot! So now we couldn’t be more excited for the release of the third film!
Some fans were concerned that with this year’s writers’ strike, the film’s release date of March 29, 2024 might be impacted. While that possibility hangs in the balance, one of the film’s stars, Jake Johnsonwho plays the older Peter B. Parker in the films, assures us that the third film will be epic.
In a recent interview with Comic Book, Johnson was asked what he could say about the third film, and he replied:
“Here’s what I can promise, and I said it about the second one when we were in the middle: Phil Lord, Chris Miller, everybody, the producers of this one, the directors they’re going to bring in… What they did in the first one is all the directors have gone on to executive produce. So they keep adding to it. What I can promise is they won’t stop until it’s excellent,” Johnson confirmed to ComicBook.com. “And if that means it takes a little longer, if that means it’s even bigger, if that means it’s longer — they don’t play by anyone’s rules. They work very hard. As actors, we’re always shocked that we were being called in to record this last one. I think it was a month before it screened, when we couldn’t believe we were still recording. So they won’t stop until it’s amazing and I have nothing but faith in But in terms of giving something away [about the story]I can not do that.”
Fans of the franchise really had no doubt that the third film would be just as strong as the first two, but it’s still great to hear. And it’s great that the studio realizes how successful it is and won’t push the creators to set a deadline to make a great, quality film.
