Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse took audiences to several alternate universes that were pretty awesome, but actually cut what was going to be one of the best! A Jack KirbyThe styled universe was designed, but unfortunately never used.
One of the film’s set designers, Aymeric Kevin, shared some of the first designs they created for the Kirbyverse, and after seeing it, I’m pretty disappointed they didn’t use it! This was a missed opportunity to do something awesome and also pay homage to one of the greatest comic book artists who ever lived.
The image features Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen inside what appears to be a ship, and is clearly Kirby’s style, and I love the colors used! The art came with a note from the artist that read, “Probably one of my favorite images I’ve done on Across the Spiderverse. Freestyle exploration of what Jack Kirby’s world could be like. This was just a tone, not tied to any story.
Damn… I really would have loved to see him come to life in the movie! I love Kirby’s style so much and seeing him come to life Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse it would have worked perfectly.
Probably one of my favorite images I’ve done on Across the Spiderverse. Freestyle exploration of what Jack Kirby’s world could be like. This was just a presentation, not related to any story.#AcrossTheSpiderverse pic.twitter.com/rTgF5uIghE
