After years of development, Blumhouse is finally releasing its film adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s. This project has had a long road to production, but it looks directorial Emma Tammi (The Wind, Blood Moon) has made a scary and funny movie that fans of the game will enjoy!
Producer Jason Blum recently spoke about the game and “can’t wait to find more” horror video games to adapt into films. He hopes so Five Nights at Freddy’s will be the first of many film adaptations of horror games.
During a recent interview with Discussing Film Blum was asked if the positive reaction to Five Nights at Freddy’s the online promotion opened the door for further adaptations and he replied:
“Well, I think the right video games are great source material for movies. I mean, have you seen that with [The Super Mario Bros. Movie]. It’s a different genre, but it was an incredibly successful film. I certainly hope so [with Five Nights at Freddy’s]. James [Wan] it’s actually a big player and we have a gaming division of our company that we’re working on. I can’t wait to find more games that are popular and that we could make into horror movies.”
Blum was also asked about Blumhouse’s merger with Wan’s Atomic Monster, and offered the following update:
“Our deal is almost done. It’s almost official, so we’re both excited about it. It’s nothing new for us, you know? We’ve collaborated on M3GAN and we’ve collaborated on all these Insidious movies. The results of our collaborations, I should say, have been very positive. So for the fans, I think the good news is, instead of a movie every two years, it’s going to be [new movies] every year. Some movies will be more Atomic Monster, some will be more Blumhouse. But both company DNAs will be present in all our films. I think, ultimately, it will create better films for the fans and for a lot of them.”
Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are sure to make many wonderfully terrifying films together. It was previously announced that Wan and Blum were collaborating to develop a Dead in the light of day film, which will take inspiration from Behavior Interactive’s multiplayer survival horror.
In Dead in the light of day, one player takes on the role of a savage Killer, while the other four players try to escape and avoid being caught, tortured and killed. Some of the demented killers include The Nurse, The Wraith, The Hag and more. There are even classic movie villains and licensed characters from movies that have been added to the game such as Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Pinhead.
I’m sure they already have other game adaptations planned that they have yet to announce.
