Roberto Egger (The witch, the lighthouse, the Norman) is in full production on its upcoming remake of the vampire horror classic Nosferatu. This is a passionate project for the director and something he has been developing for years.

I’m a huge fan of the director’s work and he has a distinctive directing style, characterized by meticulous attention to detail, historical accuracy and a penchant for atmospheric storytelling. One of the defining characteristics of Eggers’ filmmaking style is his commitment to historical authenticity. He meticulously researches the time periods in which his films are set and strives to recreate them in painstaking detail.

Well he’s trying to take things to a whole new level with Nosferatu, and in a recent interview with Empire, he says, “I’m trying to go beyond what I’m capable of.” He added:

“As always, it was a tough shoot. Last night we were shooting a scene on a ship with a lot of rain and waves, and the rain deflector, which tries to get the rain out of the lens, was cracking and fogging up. I’ve spent the last few days just working with Russian sailors on a boat. I’m so glad I did The Northman first and learned what I learned. When I think of the Nosferatu production plan we had the first time around, I’m sure I would have gotten it out of my ass somehow, but it’s hard not to picture it as a failure.

The director is also collaborating with Willem Dafoe again, and speaking of working with him on the film he said, “Willem is up for anything and he’s going to cut his arm off for the scene. It’s a fucking pleasure to work with him – he was in it The Normanwas inside [the upcoming] NosferatuI hope I’ve never made a film without him.

Dafoe stars in the film alongside Hoult and is part of an impressive ensemble cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor Johnsonwith Ralph InesonAND Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlock, the film version of Dracula. The project is currently filming and will be distributed by Focus Features.

In this new retelling, Nosferatu tells the haunting gothic tale of obsession between a persecuted young woman (Depp) in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing unspeakable horror with her.
