JJ Abrams’ HOT WHEELS film will be ‘thrilling, grounded and gritty’

When I think of Hot Wheels, I think of fun, creativity and imagination! I loved playing with Hot Wheels when I was little and I have a small collection of them too. Hot Wheels are just awesome!

Well, about a year ago it was announced that JJ Abrams was developing a Hot Wheels film for Warner Bros. and when it was first announced it was described as “a high-speed action film, which will showcase some of the most beautiful and stylish cars, monster trucks and motorcycles in the world” .

There really aren’t many details to share about the movie, but we now have an idea of ​​the tone of the movie, and it’s really not what I expected from a Hot Wheels movie. Abrams recently shared that it will be an “exciting, grounded and gritty” film. Here is his exact quote from the New Yorker:

“For a long time, we talked to Mattel about Hot Wheels, and we couldn’t find one thing that clicked, that made it worthy of what Hot Wheels – that title – deserved. Then we found something… emotional, grounded and gritty”.

I mean, I’m interested to see what they come up with for the story, but those words aren’t words I would use to describe Hot Wheels. I don’t know any Hot Wheels fan who would describe the movie like that! Hot Wheels is beautiful, fun, vibrant and exciting. They also have nothing founded on them! Kids let their imaginations run wild with Hot Wheels! They had no idea that nothing was knocked down while they were playing with those toy cars!

We’ll just have to wait and see what they come up with. Screenwriters Dalton Leeb and Nicholas Jacobson-Larson have been working on a script for the film, but there is no completed script yet.
