This was announced by FX Network Taika Waititi AND Sterling Harjothe acclaimed series of Booking Dogs will come to an end with its upcoming third season. Booking Dogs it’s a great show, and I’m surprised it ends after only three seasons, but the reason behind it was creative. According to the creator, the time has come to end the story. He shared in a statement:

“Ah, warriors young and old! There you go: the upcoming third season of Reservation Dogs will be the last season. It’s a tough joke to write and a tougher decision to make. However, it’s the creatively correct decision to the show. I always knew what the end of this story would be, I just didn’t know when it would come. As we continued to create stories and write scripts this season, it became clear to the producers, Taika and myself that the Season 3 finale it’s the perfect series finale. When we came up with the idea for Reservation Dogs, I didn’t think the show would ever get done, but luckily it did.”

“The first and most basic idea for us as natives, was to show the world that native humor and natives are funny. Almost all television and cinematic portrayals about natives are very inaccurate. And most of them have been false. It has been a gift to us to show the world a different perspective of indigenous peoples and our culture. Above all, it has been a dream to collaborate and make a show entirely written, directed and performed by native people. These are our stories and they represent the our people. We know it is a huge responsibility and we do not take it lightly. It has been an incredible experience to see the show embraced so lovingly by television audiences and critics. We are grateful for the support we have received from producer Garrett Basch, as well as from John Landgraf, Nick Grad, Kate Lambert and everyone at FX and Hulu. Our experience with them has been outstanding and we are excited to develop new shows with them once things get moving again. There are so many people to thank: our amazing writers, directors and crew and all the people of Okmulgee, Tulsa and the great people of the Muscogee Nation.”

So, I’m happy that the creative team can tell the whole story that they set out to tell and get that story done right.

The series follows the exploits of Elora Danan (Devery Jacobs), Smallhill Bear (D’Faraone Woon-A-Tai), Willy Jack (Pauline Alexius) and Cheese (lane factor), “four Indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma. After the death of the fifth member of the Reservation Dogs, the crew began to steal, scheme and save to vicariously fulfill his dream of reaching the exotic, mysterious and distant land of California. But after a promising start to their criminal enterprises, including the legendary heist of a Flaming Flamers potato chip truck, stealing some old lady’s weed edibles and some low-quality theft cars, the plan is backfired. The gang disbanded, with each trying to forge their own path.”

The last season of Booking Dogs premieres August 2nd on FX and Hulu!
