5-star INDIANA JONES Phoebe Waller-Bridge says ‘Maybe, in the future’ we’ll see a Helena Shaw spinoff

During a recent interview with Variety, Phoebe Waller Bridge sitting and talking Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and during the conversation, a spin-off film following her character Helena Shaw was introduced. She explained that it could happen in the future, saying:

“There is no way to replace Indiana Jones in any way. But I feel like the character herself: She felt fresh on the page, and there’s a sense of, is there room in the world for someone like this? So I think there’s room for a slightly more awkward, bruised, limping female action star, perhaps, in the future.

Helena Shaw is the goddaughter of Indiana Jones and when she previously spoke about the character Waller-Bridge said:

“I think they’ve really done something amazing: she fits the canon and feels like there’s definitely an energy that she shares with all the characters that have come before her, especially the female parts, but she’s unique and has a voice She was a mysterious person from the start [Indy’s] he’s often been the mystery to those characters before, especially his female counterparts, and I think there’s something really unusual about the way they turn that around here.”

I liked the character in the movie and he brought a fun edge to the story, but if I were interested in an Indiana Jones spin-off project, it would be one that follows the adventures of Ke Huy Quan’s Short Round. This is the only one that makes sense to me. But who knows what will happen?

One thing we do know is that director James Mangold isn’t interested in making a spinoff for Helena Shaw. He said, “I’m not interested. I refuse. I just can’t do it. The amount of lore and easter eggs and fan service starts to become antithetical to any of those things at some point. It’s not storytelling anymore. It’s advertising on large scale.”

Now, just because it won’t, doesn’t mean Lucasfilm and Disney won’t bring in someone else who would. I just think the Indiana Jones franchise should end with Quadrant of Destiny. But, president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy he previously spoke about the continuation of the franchise, saying it’s “entirely possible” but “we’re not having any of those conversations right now. We’re just focused on finishing this one with Harrison.”
