To produce producer Jason Blum offered a new update on Todd McFarlane’S To produce film, which he has been trying to make for over a decade. Fans have wondered if this film will ever actually get made, but Blum assures that the film is in “very, very active development.” During a recent interview with CB, he was asked about the project and this was his answer:
“I would say you have a lot to look forward to. What needs to happen is that my friends and the writers and studios need to figure out their differences and get back to writing, but we have a great group of people putting it together, and my hope is that that movie – my prediction is that maybe we’ll actually see a Spawn movie in ’25.No promises, but that’s my prediction.
The screenplay of the film was developed by Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Captain America: New World Order), and nascent scribe Matt Mixone. Jamie Foxx he was also still attached to the role of Spawn, and while McFarlane was looking to direct it, he’d previously acknowledged that he might not be the right person for the job. Previously he said:
“If we have an A-list actor, A-list producers, A-list writers, then you want to shoot for A-list directors, A-list cinematographers? The answer is, ‘of course.’ Let’s keep the momentum going.”
McFarlane previously said it’s now or never to make his film and explained:
“Something is going to give way in the next few months, right? There are too many people pushing in that direction, again I got a call later today on that very topic. You can imagine Spider-Man making a billion dollars and everyone in some way it kind of… I mean they were already crazy, now they just got twice as crazy. Spider-Man comes along and obliterates it, so now they’re almost singular in their mindset about what kind of ideas they have. So something has to happen. We’ll never make it to the top of the mountain if we can’t do it now, with everyone wanting to do it now. fingers. I’d say it’s now or never.”
I’m a fan of McFarlan’s vision and tone for the film, and it’s previously been described as “Spawn meets David Fincher” and a “gritty thing” and “dirty”. Speaking earlier about his take on the story, McFarlane explained:
“There are two major roles in the script. There’s obviously sort of Spawn himself, though in a weird way that’s not the biggest role, and then there’s the cop. The cop is this Twitch character who’s been there from issue 1. Twitch is the role in this, and I refer to him as my sheriff Brody, who is the sheriff in the movie Jaws. Even though his name was Jaws, Jaws didn’t talk much in his movie, right? is presented at the right time to make the film worthwhile”.
Producer Jason Blum he also previously said of the project: “What excited me is that Spawn is kind of the last great untapped comic. So it seemed like an amazing opportunity. It took longer than I hoped to get the story right, but we’re still working on it.” Blum also said the reboot “is going to be very different, it’s going to be very edgy.”
While I hope this movie gets made, after all these years, it’s hard to believe it will ever go into production.
